Chapter 7 Mensuration Class 10 Maharashtra Board TextBook Solution
Practice set 7.1 | Q 12 | Page 146
As showm in the
figure, a cylindrical
glass contains water.
A metal sphere of
diameter 2 cm is
immersed in it. Find
the volume of the
water.
Answer:-
Radius of the metallic sphere, r = 1 cm
Radius of the cylindrical glass, R = 7 cm
Height of water in cylindrical glass, H = 30 cm
Therefore, the volume of the water = Volume of water in the cylindrical glass – Volume of the metallic sphere
= πR²H – (4/3)πr³
= π(7)² × 30 – (4/3)π × (1)³
= 1470π – 1.33π = 1468.67π cm³
Thus, the volume of the water is 1468.67π cm³.
Solution
Radius of the metallic sphere, $r = frac{2}{2}$ 1 cm
Radius of the cylindrical glass, $R = frac{14}{2}= 7$ cm
Height of water in cylindrical glass, $H= 30$ cm
$therefore$ Volume of the water = Volume of water in the cylindrical glass – Volume of the metallic sphere
$$= pi R^2 H – frac{4}{3}pi r^3 $$
$$= pi (7)^2 times 30 – frac{4}{3}pi times (1)^3 $$
$$= 1470pi – 1.33pi$$
$$= 1468.67pi text{ cm}^3$$
Thus, the volume of the water is $1468.67pi$ cm$^3$.
