Chapter 4 – Geometric Construction – Text Book Solution

Practice set 4.1 |Q 1 | P 96

Δ ABC ~ Δ LMN. In Δ ABC, AB = 5.5 cm, BC = 6 cm, CA = 4.5 cm. If MN = 4.8 cm, then construct Δ ABC and Δ LMN such that BC/MN = 5/4

solution

Construct ∆ABC such that AB = 5.5 cm, BC = 6 cm and CA = 4.5 cm.
∆ABC and ∆LMN are similar.
Therefore, their corresponding sides are proportional.

[therefore frac{AB}{LM} = frac{BC}{MN} = frac{CA}{NL} = frac{5}{4}]

[Rightarrow frac{5 . 5}{LM} = frac{6}{MN} = frac{4 . 5}{NL} = frac{5}{4}]

[Rightarrow LM = frac{4}{5} times 5 . 5 = 4 . 4 text{ cm}, MN = frac{4}{5} times 6 = 4 . 8text{ cm} , NL = frac{4}{5} times 4 . 5 = 3 . 6 ] cm

Now, construct ∆LMN such that LM = 4.4 cm, MN = 4.8 cm and NL = 3.6 cm.

D ABC ~ D LMN. In D ABC, AB = 5.5 cm, BC = 6 cm, CA = 4.5 cm. Construct D ABC and D LMN such that BC MN = 5 4 .
